Denton Regional Medical Center Introduces Dr. Matthew Cavey

The Cancer Center at Denton Regionaltakes great pleasure in announcing the opening of Denton Regional Radiation Oncology, headed by Matthew L. Cavey, MD, DABR. Denton Regional Radiation Oncology is located on the hospital campus in the Professional Office Building, Suite 111.  Dr. Cavey will begin seeing patients on Monday, September 24, 2007, with  hours of service being Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm.

Denton Regional Radiation Oncology is the first and only facility in Denton County to offer IGRT (Image Guide Radiation Therapy). Other external beam radiation therapy services provided include IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy), 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy, and Stereotactic Radiosurgery. High Dose Rate Brachytherapy services will include both interstitial and intracavitary applications, including MammoSite partial breast radiation and prostate interstitial brachytherapy.

Dr. Cavey is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist, receiving his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).  He also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science Degree in Engineering Management, both from Southern Methodist University. Dr. Cavey completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at UTMB. He has been extensively involved in clinical radiation oncology research, particularly in breast and prostate cancer. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at numerous national and international meetings. He was honored for his research efforts with the Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award from the Research and Education Foundation of the Radiological Society of North America in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Dr. Cavey joined The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in August 2006 and was elected as a 2007 Top Doc by Fort Worth, Texas magazine.

Dr. Cavey has a special clinical interest in Breast, Genitourinary, Gynecologic and Head and Neck malignancies. He is trained in the use of Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy, Cyberknife and Linac-based Stereotactic Radiosurgery, and the administration of radiopharmaceuticals. He also has extensive experience in both high and low dose rate (HDR, LDR) interstitial and intracavitary brachytherapy with specific applications including breast (MammoSite Partial Breast Radiation Therapy), prostate (seed and HDR), and gynecologic malignancies.
