Denton Regional Radiation Oncology Opens with Only Image
Guided Radiation Therapy in the County
DENTON, TX (September 18, 2007) –The Cancer Center at Denton Regional takes great pleasure in announcing the addition of new oncology services for the people of Denton and surrounding counties. Comprehensive cancer services for both inpatient and outpatients will now include medical oncology, radiation oncology, comprehensive diagnostic imaging and breast diagnostics, inpatient surgical services and integrated nutrition, education, and cancer rehabilitation.
What makes The Cancer Center at Denton Regional unique is the combination of services available on one campus. As a patient goes through their course of treatment, they are able to access a continuum of care – all under one roof.
Phase I will be the opening of Denton Regional Radiation Oncology, headed by Matthew L. Cavey, MD, DABR, a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist. Denton Regional Radiation Oncology is located on the hospital campus in the Professional Office Building, Suite 111.
Denton Regional Radiation Oncology is the first and only facility in Denton County to offer cancer patients use of the state-of-the-art technology, Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). Other external beam radiation therapy services provided include Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy, and Stereotactic Radiosurgery. High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy services will comprise both interstitial and intracavitary applications, including MammoSite partial breast radiation and prostate interstitial brachytherapy. With this state of the art technology, a patient’s radiation dose can be measured with exacting precision, delivering more radiation directly to the tumor while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue and providing maximum safety. Dr. Cavey will begin seeing patients on Monday, September 24, 2007, with hours of service being Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm.
Phase II of the project consists of the addition of The Center of Cancer and Blood Disorders at Denton Regional. Headed by Gus Gonzalez, MD, services will include medical oncology and hematology. The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders will be located in the Denton Regional Professional Office Building, directly across the hall from Denton Regional Radiation Oncology. Phase II construction is set to begin in October and it is anticipated to be opened in January, 2008.
The Cancer Center at Denton Regional will also include offices for the Cancer Center Director, Judy Jeanes, RN, as well as a cancer research library. Other cancer care related resources such as support groups, nutrition support, psychosocial support and pastoral care will also be provided.
The Cancer Center at Denton Regional is accredited by Joint Commission and the American College of Surgeons (ACOS) Commission on Cancer, and lead by board-certified Radiation Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, Radiologists, Surgeons, and a fellowship-trained Breast Radiologist. With the addition of Denton Regional Radiation Oncology and The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Denton Regional, inpatients and outpatients can easily access all aspects of cancer care in one location, close to home.
